I almost didn't make it to the gym today. In order to get to the gym I have to drive from my office to the main campus of our offices since I work off-site, and in making that drive I go right past the mall. Yesterday, there was some strange force pulling me toward the mall, it was like I had those two little 'Me's' on my shoulder, you know the red - bad one and the white - good one. The red one was telling me to pull into the mall and go spend tons of money which I don't have in the first place, and besides, I had already done two work outs this week, and I'm getting ready to leave on a little mini vacation so I'm not going to get to work out again till Monday so what's really the point of going to the gym anyway. Then there was the little white guy on the other shoulder telling me, NO - go to the gym, you're getting ready to go on vacation, you won't don't know if you'll be able to work out while you're gone, you need to get that last workout in, and you don't have the money to go blow at the mall anway, and what in the world do you possibly need?!
I listened to the white guy and went to the gym and thank goodness I did. Getting there is always the hardest part, mentally, but when I'm done, I always feel so good. Anyway, I got there, changed, laced up my shoes, plugged in my iPod, jumped on the treadmill started walking, looked up and almost fell off when I saw what was going on in front of me. There was a guy in the middle of the room (it's not a big room) who had propped his laptop up on a bunch of exercise mats, and was doing what looked like tae-bo to a video playing on his laptop. Good for him for not being the least bit embarassed for doing something that in my mind is done in the privacy of one's basement, in the middle of the office gym. He did that video for the full 40 min that I was on the treadmill and gave it 100%, I think he may have even done it twice. I almost felt like I needed to thank him after my workout for giving me some entertainment because let's face it, what else was I going to look at.
My workout was successful as well. I was able to walk a little farter than I did on Monday, nothing significant but my hips didn't hurt this time, I went a little faster and a little farther and that's the goal, baby steps to improve.
Now I'm off on my "Me-Cation". Just me, headed out of town until Sunday, as much as I'd like to get some workouts in while I'm gone, I just don't think it's in the cards this weekend, but no worries, I'll pick up right where I'm leaving off on Monday!
